Study the arts at Roman.

Generation after generation, young men who honed their natural artistic talents at Roman have achieved incredible things. Our school sees music, fine arts, and visual design as cornerstone to whole-student education and lifelong passion.

With state-of-the-art facilities as well as dedicated music and fine arts staff, Roman helps students meet their true potential.

Taking arts beyond the classroom

In addition to deep course offerings in the arts, Roman students can pursue extra-curricular and afterschool opportunities to sharpen their craft, share their works, and engage deeply with like-minded friends.

  • Roman Catholic Choir

    directed by Mr. Tyler Johnson

Reintroduced in 2025, the Roman Catholic Choir assembles students of all experience levels to practice and perform throughout the year.

Choir members perform at the Spring Concert in Roman’s Howard Center for the Arts, as well as for the sisters of Saint Joseph in Flourtown. They also sing at school Masses at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, as well as during many major school assemblies.

  • Jazz band

Meeting as a weekly afterschool extracurricular club, the Roman jazz band invites students to join as saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass guitar, and drum players — though instrumentation is flexible.

The jazz band performs several times per year, including at biannual school concerts, the Greater Philadelphia Area Leadership Award Dinner, and many school functions.

  • Howard Center piano lab

    directed by Mr. Kyle Krause

Outfitted with 15 Korg D1 digital pianos, Roman’s brand new piano lab at the Howard Center gives young men an unmatched environment for developing advanced piano skills. Each keyboard station is equipped with headphones and central teacher feedback systems to help students improve. In addition to piano courses, the lab is available for afterschool club use.

Visual and digital arts

With an immersive art studio, professional video editing workspaces, and photo walks across multiple environments, Roman students can explore the fine and visual arts without limitations.
