Brad Wanamaker Introduction
For Immediate Release:
Brad Wanamaker ’07 Named 17th Head Coach of Roman Catholic Basketball
PHILADELPHIA — Roman Catholic High School is proud to announce the appointment of Brad Wanamaker ‘07 as the 17th Head Coach in the history of Roman Catholic Basketball since 1920. A legendary Cahillite, former NCAA All-American, and accomplished NBA veteran, Wanamaker returns to Broad and Vine to lead the very program that helped launch his remarkable career.
Wanamaker becomes the first head coach with professional basketball experience since the iconic Billy Markward, a pioneer of the sport in its earliest days. During his time at Roman, Wanamaker scored 1,306 career points—13th all-time at Roman—and cemented his legacy by leading the Cahillites to the 2007 Philadelphia Catholic League Championship at the Palestra. Down ten with under six minutes to go, Brad’s 17 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and four steals sparked a dramatic 59–56 comeback win over Neumann-Goretti.
That same season, coached by the legendary Dennis Seddon, his senior-year team finished with an outstanding 28–3 record, closing the season on a 13-game winning streak.
Following high school, Wanamaker earned a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he scored over 1,000 points and was named an AP Honorable Mention All-American in 2011. His professional career spanned Europe, the NBA G League, and the NBA, where he suited up for the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, and Washington Wizards.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brad Wanamaker as the new Head Coach of Roman Catholic Basketball,” said President John Prendergast ‘08. “Brad’s pedigree as a professional athlete, his deep connection to Roman, and most importantly, his clear commitment to developing young men on and off the court made this a confident and natural decision. We look forward to the leadership and vision Brad will bring as he returns to lead the very program that helped shape him as a student at Broad and Vine.” Wanamaker’s return marks a new chapter in Cahillite Basketball—rooted in legacy, inspired by excellence, and built for the future. He now returns to Roman not only as a coach but as a parent—his son, Brad Jr., is a rising sophomore on this year’s team.
An in-person press conference introducing Brad will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Roman Gym. All media and Roman basketball fans are invited to attend.
