Greetings for Broad and Vine

Homecoming 2018

By Mike Pelone ’77, Chair, Membership Affairs

God blessed Roman with a beautiful sunny day on Sunday, November 4th to celebrate our Memorial Mass and Homecoming! As Day mounted the East, the Homecoming Committee, along with the Advancement and Maintenance teams did the final preparations as 421 Sons of Cahill returned home to celebrate our return to tradition.

A beautiful Mass celebrated by our President/Rector, Rev. Joseph Bongard ‘77, and an inspirational homily delivered by Rev. Eric Banecker ‘07, lifted our hearts. Our loyal alums displayed their Cahill spirit by gifting over $4,000 at Collection to benefit our neediest of students.

Our annual alumni meeting was hosted by Jim Cute of the great class of 1968 who were feted for their 50th anniversary. Nick Hamilton ‘19 wowed us with his inspirational speech. We saluted Tom Johnston ‘72 for his loyal leadership and elected Steve Paul ‘83 as his able successor. We memorialized an iconic Roman Guy, Paul Pincituro ‘69, and were graced by his family’s presence.
Homecoming featured great food and drink throughout the building as classmates from 1938 to 2018 buzzed with camaraderie.

Tours led by our purple clad students showcased our updated classic 1890 building, McSherry Annex and the magnificent new Howard Center for the Arts.

When Day Sank to its Rest, we put the House that Cahill Built back together to welcome Monday’s young Cahillites. Our hope is they too will carry The 1890 Roman Spirit past graduation and return again and again with time and treasure as Brothers for Life. HURRAH!

And More Alumni News!

Thank you to the Class of 1967

On Friday, December 14th at 2 PM, the Class of 1967 will be gathering in Renaissance Hall for the Blessing and Dedication of the stained glass windows given to Roman as their Jubilee Gift.  These beautiful windows were repurposed from Immaculate Conception Church in Germantown and will be dedicated in honor of William "Billy" Keenan, a beloved classmate and loyal alum.

Class of 1968

Many thanks to the Class of 1968 and their generous gift of over $10,000
to Roman!  The class has been enjoying time together, first at Homecoming where they presented their class purse and passed the Jubilee baton to the Class of 1969 and at their reunion at the Flourtown Country Club on November 16th where a great time was had by all.

Reminder

To all alums.  Remember those chance books you received in the mail back in September?  It is almost drawing time.  Please return your sold chances and money collected to the Roman Advancement Office by December 10th!  You do not need to be present to win, but you can come and see if your ticket is pulled at the drawing at 3:00 PM on December 14, 2018 in the cafeteria.  This is a fun and easy way to support Roman!  Good luck to all!

With the opening of the Howard Center for Arts phase 1 of the "Vision of Promise" Campaign is now complete!

Building on that momentum, we are now focused on Phase 2--A new Science, Technology ,Engineering and Math (STEM) Center. To be built next to the 1890 building, The STEM Center, will provide an expanded cafeteria along with new classrooms for the advanced sciences equipped with the latest technology.

To kick-start this drive, two members of our Board of Directors have generously pledged $500,000 as a challenge grant. Every dollar raised in the next 6 months will be matched up to 1 million! We need your help to meet this challenge. We don't want to leave any money on the table! Every donation, big & small is welcomed as we meet this challenge & begin this new phase. To contribute to this challenge grant, contact Patrick Plunkett,  Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, pplunkett@romancatholichs.com, 215-627-5487 ext. 312
