Rising 8th Graders (Current 7th): $150
This program is designed to help rising 8th graders better prepare for the Scholarship Exam, which is required for admission to RCHS as an incoming freshman. The two-week program's dates for Summer 2025 are July 28, 2025 through August 8, 2025. The program runs from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The fee is $150, which includes a workbook, an hour of each subject below, and registration for the official Roman Scholarship Exam that will be administered on the last day of the program. Registration for the program is TBD.
Math and Reasoning:
Students will be taught basic algebra skills along with a comprehensive review of general mathematical concepts. Some of the topics that will be covered include fractions, decimals, percentages, and simple equations. Students will be challenged with word problems and will learn test-taking strategies.
English:
Students will learn and practice vocabulary words related to the exam, as well as helpful Latin root words to better guess at the meanings of difficult words. Students will practice identifying and utilizing English grammar from parts of speech to sentence structures. Also, students will read interesting stories and analyze their elements to better prepare them for the exam.
Rising 9th Graders (Current 8th): $125
This program is designed to help rising 9th graders better prepare for the academic challenges at the high school level. The two-week program runs from July 28-August 8, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The fee is $125, which includes one hour each of Algebra and Study Skills. Registration for the program is TBD.
Algebra Foundations:
The intention for this course is to provide a working knowledge of basic algebra and boost mathematical confidence in general. Some of the topics that will be covered include factoring, foil method, graphing (using calculators on loan from school), solving equations and word problems. This course also provides a solid foundation for the SAT and as well as prepares students for their freshman year math course.
Study Skills:
The goal of this course is to provide an opportunity for students to develop a skill set that will allow for enhanced academic performance. Students will be exposed to the following concepts: time-management, outlining, note-taking, organization, active listening, research methods and test-taking strategies. Upon completion, students should be able to manage their learning experiences to successfully meet educational goals. The program stresses the importance of developing and utilizing study skills and describes the benefits that accompany the use of these skills during the school year.
